IWI Galil ACE: Evolved

THE IWI Galil ACE is the new age galil that the USA has not seen since its evolution:

Quick look

That said significant improvements have been made. These are now ground-up constructed. Instead of saying what is wrong with the AK? How do we fix it? The directive was to take the strides of the Galil and put them to work in the ACE.

What are we talking? Skeleton-polymer lower (weight reduction), enhanced ergonomics (including charging handle movement), elemental resistance (gun is now sealed off  like an AR rather than an AK), modularity (monolithic top rail for optics mounting).

Elite Tactical Systems VS IraqVeteran8888 and VSO Gun Channel

We recently attended the Big 3 Event in Dayton Beach, FL. While there we met up with Elite Tactical Systems Group (ETS) and learned about their new magazines. In conversation with the ETS guys the topic of rugged testing came up and their claims were interesting. So I flat out asked them "Let's test them right now, what do you think?" They agreed and of we went.

While prepping up to go off the wire Eric and Chad from IraqVeteran8888 were passing by and we asked if they wanted to come play? They obliged and played a major role in the testing. So without further delay here is our torture testing of ETS Magazines.

Shoot Steel Close Range Rifle Targets

ShootSteel.com has a wide variety of offerings in their line of AR500 steel targets. We initially acquired some targets from their static setup line and were very happy with them. However, they showed signs of damage when bimetallic jacketed bullets were shot at them. Their solution was for us to test out their close range rifle setups. These things were awesome. ShootSteel personnel even attended the testing. Probably to make sure we didn't cheat and shoot something ridiculous at them.

We plan to acquire the full line of ShootSteelproducts to give you an in-depth look at them all.

Asymmetric Solutions Capability Demonstration 2014

I recently attended and filmed the capabilities demonstration at Asymmetric Solutions USA. It was a multi-part demonstration the first phase of which was a simulated hit. See that video below.

ShootSteel.com Portable AR500 Steel Targets

ShootSteel.Com has a wide range of target set ups that, in my opinion are excellent alternatives. I first came across these by shooting with FXHummel. To date we had been blasting away at really heavy homemade stuff that I welded together myself. I really love how easy they are to set up and transport. Here is a quick look at the excellence:

A War Far from Over, an Enemy Strengthened by our Ineptittude

“And we remember the end of our combat mission and the emergence of a new dawn -– the precision of our efforts against al Qaeda in Iraq, the professionalism of the training of Iraqi security forces, and the steady drawdown of our forces."

-Barrack Obama, Fort Bragg, North Carolina December 14th 2012 11:52 A.M. EST

Tell that to James Foley. I strongly advise you to not view the contents of this link around children and the infirm. When Live Leak puts a stop in place before you get to a piece of content you know it's going to be bad. I assure you that it is. However, for those of you who think you can stomach it- this directly shows the evil that has possessed our enemy. Fewer times will you see evil so purely incarnated than in such religious zelotry.

http://m.liveleak.com/view?i=519_1408481769

Some of us have known, others denied, and still more were naive to it; we are at war. I don't care if you want to be or not, the enemy has chosen the time.  This is the price of subjecting our military capacities to the petty whims of a spineless politician. This is the price, of anti-American rhetoric and policies used for the purposes of political expediency and personal gain. This is the price of directing our efforts to a progressive domestic agenda rather than focusing on those that would see our civilization annihilated.
This, Mr. President, is the price of not finishing what we start. Men better than you and I died for that ground and you handed back in gift wrap. The enemy has chosen the time. I pray that we get our shit together and find someone who has the fortitude to do your job before they choose the place as well.

Remember kids, Islam is a religion of peace...

Remington 870 Mud Test

We recently did a mud test of several types of shotguns. Although the test was by no means scientific some viewers were upset with the results, particularly the level of mud application to the Remington 870. After watching the video I can see why they would say this. Although I can assure you that it was thoroughly muddy, we are all about fulfilling our viewers' requests and we did a retest of the 870. Of course, the Mudgirl returns to do our dirty work.

Sig Sauer 556R: Not Really for AK Guys

As many of you know we have been testing the Sig Sauer 556R for some time now and have produced multiple videos featuring this weapon system. We have mixed results from this thing and the most recent round of testing was no exception.
Some issues can be chalked up to training issues or user performance but I would definitively say that there are areas for improvement on the gun as far as a design to user interface is concerned. To give a brief synopsis of the video you are about to see, we swapped owners on the following two rifles. An Arsenal SLR owned by FXHummel was run by one of our crew and FX, a trained AK user, used the Sig 556R.
The major take away for me was Kalashnikov training does not intuitively translate to the Sig design. Oh, yeah and tapco mags suck...but we already knew.
Enjoy the show.

Stevens 320: Light in your Hand and on your Wallet

Yeah, so the Stevens 320 12 gauge shotgun. This was actually a gifted gun from my mother. Long story short, I sold the Benelli to Wombat- ex wife shenanigans that I am not going to get into here. Because of that, I was short a 12 gauge and constantly complained. I really liked that gun and although I am glad that it went to a good home I am pissed that I has to off it.

My dear mother (knows nearly nothing about guns) went out and bought me this Stevens 320. I really like this gun; it's light and shoots well. That said it does have a little jump to it because of the weight. We will have to see how it performs long term, but for now see the rest of the review below:

Obama Detaining U.S. Citizens for Respiratory Problems

Read this crap people. By the way Ebola doesn't cause respiratory infection.

To be fair Bush did this too, but it was in specific instances of confirmed  infection with the listed diseases. While this does list a specific exemtion from enfluenza, this is- you had an anathema attack and DHS swarms your house, detains you, your family, and your dog indefinitely. Not cool at all. Grandma is on oxygen, instead of sending her to a death panel they are probably just going to run her down with an MRAP, or muzzle strike her off her scooter. Dose up on NyQuil boys and girls before you get the black bag.

Link below. Even though they broke it first, I did not list the infowars link -makes me look like I actually did my homework. Black helicopters...

Tactical Pistol Training at Asymmetric Solutions

Recently we visited Asymmetric Solutions  for a second time. While there we did a few filming sessions, a photo shoot for some equipment, and of course some hardcore training. Two days of training to be exact; some of it filmed, most of it not. Two classes were filmed for which videos will be forthcoming. Tactical Pistol 1 and Tactical Rifle 1. Both courses were taught by highly credentialed individuals who have re-purposed their skill sets and experience to instructing across the board.

We put Wombat into the Pistol course with a camera attached to his head and inserted the rest of the team into the Tactical Rifle course. I bounced back and forth between the two courses observing the guys' performance and ran the camera.

As an observer that day, the major take away was that the instructors are just DAMN AWESOME. Highly skilled, knowledgeable, personable, and most importantly, very candid and funny.

While post production is taking a considerable amount of time I now am able to present to you a look inside a Tactical Pistol 1 Course at Asymmetric Solutions. This facility is located near Farmington, Missouri and offers a full compliment of course ranging from basic to expert level. Hopefully we will see you at the range sometime soon.

Enjoy the show.

UPS OR FedEx for Gun People

If you work with firearms enough eventually you will  run into a situation where you need to send a gun via mail. You might break a part or perhaps need to send it to get some custom work done. Whatever the reason, there is always that little bit of "damn it, I have to walk into a crowded room and announce that I have a gun in a box".

Yesterday I sent a few handguns out to get some custom work on them through Danger Close Armament (frame specialization), Tuebor Precision (slide machining), and Heritage Gun Works (Class III manufacturer). They were kind enough to generate a shipping label for me so all I had to do was drop it off. Right.... Unless you account for the suck at Fedex

I walked in and, as per instruction, declared the to the clerk that the box contained a firearm. You would have thought I stuffed it in his face. He then proceeded to consult his coworkers as to whether or not they could do this.

Once it was ascertained that they could indeed ship a firearm, it was a question of ground or air.

Meantime... While on hold with corporate...

I told them that I had to policy pulled up on the Fedex website and the lady, moves the phone slightly away from her face and says "that's nice" and continues to wait.

The one guy calmed down a bit and started to make small talk about the type and caliber. He seemed to have some background knowledge of firearms but was clearly not an owner. When I answered there were two in the box, a 1911 and a Glock, one of the female clerk's eyes rolled and she announced she was going to go get lunch and left.

Time elapsed...

The person from corporate didn't know the policy either and forced them to have to ship Priority Overnight (4X the cost of ground). Heritage Gun Works (HGW), knowing the policy and having shipped hundreds of firearms in the past prepared the label for ground. They then moved me to the side and compelled me to contact HGW to get another label made. Of course, after a brief explanation, HGW got right on it and sent it via the email supplied by FedEx.
This shipping station; however, appears to have 1997 interweb and it took a solid 20 minutes for them to get my label. After that ordeal, the clerk said (yes I was there long enough to go through a shift change at Fedex) they would get it shipped out; I lingered a bit to physically watch them put the label on the box and put it in the outgoing shipment rack.

Today, I had a another firearm that I actually damaged in T&E and needed to return for repair. This shipping label was for UPS ground. I walked into the UPS store. Was immediately met by a clerk and asked how I could be helped. I said "I need to ship this out and it contains a firearm, so whatever your process is for that"

He replied "we just have to tape it up, that's the process"
[handed me the receipt that he had printed simultaneous to my declaration; queue tape gun]
"Have a good one sir, we will get this out today".

So I don't know about you but I am sold. Also, don't say USPS, I have had numerous items stolen out of boxes by that fraudulent, government-run monstrosity.

Special thanks to Heritage Gun Works for their diligence on this one.

What do you think? Comment below.

Repeal the Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) Provision of the NFA

I don't do this often but I want to ask that everyone go sign this petition. Do I think it is going to immediately spur action to repeal provisions of the NFA? No, that would be a silly dream. I am not Alex Jones and I do not drum things up to be something they are not. So I will tell you the purpose of this petition: It is to start the conversation. With the advent and acceptance of the AR-15 pistol and the Sig Brace we have clear evidence (and precident) as to how frivolous the SBR provision is. We are talking about an incremental approach to getting this one back. Once things are on the books it's hard to get them off. We are getting close on this one though and we need to start talking about it.

There are many that would say that the way you do it is to defy the law. Yes, that would be ideal, but it only works if you have hundreds of thousands of people defying the law simultaneously. These days you couldn't get 100K people to do anything that requires removing themselves from the TV. Let alone ask them to actively do anything felonious.

However, doing an AR-15 pistol build and signing this petition are how you, as an individual, do this. Remember also that you have power. You are something that the media can't stop or spin; you wield the interweb. Use your social media, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google+, Blogger, ect. Share things with your networks, because no one can touch that power, and it scares the hell out of our opposition.

Please, sign the damn petition.

NFA Regulations Draconian and Unconstitutional: Do Your Part

Anyone who knows me or has watched any amount of time on my Youtube Channel would know my stance on the National Firearms Act (NFA). The title says it all: Draconian and Unconstitutional. the gall that the Government has to believe that it can regulate our God given rights to weaponry is
just flat-out offensive. This country is was born out of conflict. It is not only part of our culture, but our civic duty, NO, our birthright to be more adverse than the world. Our founders wrote the 2nd Amendment to the constitution to ensure that we, the citizens remained equally, if not better armed than any nation's army. It is a deterrent to America's enemies, including those who seek her demise from the the White House and floor of Congress.
That said, we have to work within the system to dismantle the monster this idiocy has wrought. Everyone knows I have been a long-time fan of the Sig SB-15 Brace. I believe this is the first step toward marginalizing the NFA. It is your right and your duty as a citizen of this country to construct an AR-15 pistol using this brace. It is a gimmick, but it is an important gimmick because it is on the ATF. I built two and I will never do anything else until the SBR insolence has been repealed.

Gandalf the Red: Would an AK-47 have Helped in The Lord of The Rings

I saw this photo and I was compelled to make a meme out of it. My question to you is this: How would this have altered the story line? I mean we are of course assuming that as a wizard Gandalf could generate am unlimited source of ammunition and magazines for himself. Also, it seems to me that orcs are just as mortal as humans so 7.62x39mm probably does a number on them. Perhaps it would be even more effective because, at least in the movies, they tend to disintegrate pretty easily at the edge of a sword. Although, it could be entirely the opposite, the high-velocity rounds could pass through doing little damage. They are little fuckers after all. Now Uruk-hai, on the other hand, most certainly are beefier and would provide adequate mass for terminal ballistics.

The real question is, would the weapon have helped with the Balrog? I'm going to say hell no. That thing is like a napalm-drenched dragon crossed with a train, crossed with Arnold Schwarzenegger (from the terminator days). Did I mention it can fly too. That all said, the fact that Gandalf took that that thing with a sword, a staff, and a healthy dose of badass magic shows one of two things. Either the Balrog is a pussy or Mr. Grey is far beyond the assistance of an AK-47.

Fast forward a bit to the battle of Pelennor Fields. How about there? Gandalf, now the White (significantly more powerful), is stuck within the city of Minas Tirith. Street to street fighting with hordes of Uruk-hai? Yeah, he probably could have used one of those. He even had a little bitch-boy to load mags for him. From one hand he could be lobbing staff derived plasma, and spew Soviet hellfire from the other. #CombatMultiplier. Wrap your brain around this one boys and girls: a magically augmented AK-47. Gasp...

What is to keep him from magically reproducing them for the whole army? Gasp again...
So it really isn't a huge stretch-they already have a basic grasp on the use of projectile weapons. But I am sure the elves would go all Obi-Wan Kenobi on it, call it uncivilized, and stick with the bow skill they have been perfecting for thousands of years.

For that matter, once seen on the battlefield what is keeping the forces of darkness from replicating it? I mean, I built one in my basement and small African children can keep them running. I am sure an evil army with a few wizards of their own and the manufacturing capabilities of Isengard could pull it off. Gasp X3...

Your thoughts?

A Second Look At the Sig Sauer 556R

Taking a look at the Sig Sauer 556R, again. Last summer we got one of these in and quickly identified a few issues.

Over this past winter we went over it again after some hard use. This time we had a guest in the house... Tactical Tunes AKA FXHummel1. For those of you who aren't in the know, he is an AK guy. I would consider all my crew to be of the AR crowd so this was a welcome perspective. He adds a few points from the perspective of an AK owner but came to the same relative opinion. It's a nice gun, but it is not without issue. Tune in and tell us what you think.

Check out some of the issues we had here

Here we can see MrTacticalBacon and a few of his buddies on liberty in some "God-Awful 3rd world country". I believe that, right. As he sucks down an Irish Stout and drains that Cigar. No but in all seriousness everyone deserves some R&R and I am sure that mercilessly hunting down our nation's enemies has its vices. The mail is clearly quite slow to there as he definitely hasn't been eating the peanut butter that we have been sending him. #tooskinny. That said, it looks like he has had some time to work on his sleeve some. I'll be interested to check that out.

My Haters

I was feeling a bit lazy this morning and I was reading through some comments. One viewer asked why there was so much negativity in the comment section of a product review video. I thought that this was a good answer to publish on a broader scale:

People don't like it when you challenge norms, like "Glock is the best" or "Everything Magpul makes is gold". I started this channel to do just that, challenge.

I have had the privilege of directly influencing (have been directly contacted or physically present) the gear decisions of multiple service members and LEOs; potentially saving their life. This was done by not sucking up to companies, not going with the flow, and yes pissing A LOT of people off. That is why you see such negativity in the comment fields, because people go to YouTube to justify the money they have spent. When they find someone who isn't drooling over that product they get pissed.

I break things, I am hard on things, and I pull no punches because I am not a gear reviewer. I hate that title. "Hey guys, I got this thing for free in the mail, and it looks cool, buy it" Gag me, can you get more sycophantic or shallow? I can't understand how people can watch some of these people.

I am a gear tester, there are few of us out there, and by obligation to you (whether you like it or not) I have to be hard, objective, and for lack of a better term- a prick.

What people don't see in the background is I am writing product improvement reports to companies trying to make gear better overall. Some are accepted and implemented,  other times I am told to shut up.

"You know you are doing something right when people hate you". -James Yeager

This is true; I know I am doing the right thing because of the type of people, who trust me. I could care less what a keyboard commando says, it's the opinion of their antithesis that matters.

Special thanks to the viewer for their comment.

Bureau of Land Management Savagely Attacks Bundy Ranch- We Make Fun of Them

We were doing a day of maintenance on the farm operation that cohabitates with VSO and we decided to put together a satirical piece to draw attention to the events out west at the Bundy Ranch. For those of you who don't know the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attempted a raid on the Ranch but was thwarted when scores of well armed militia intervened.   Thank God.
We are lucky enough to have contacts on the ground that have been reporting since the beginning of the incident and the aftermath. Enjoy our Stick to the BLM and be sure to write them a nasty letter.

Hoskins International: Fake for Energy Savings: Calls out Marcus Luttrell

Hoskins International, a business that I really cant confirm what they do, something to do with energy conservation. That said, the integrity of whatever they do should likely be questioned. Earlier this week, Don Shipley  of the Buds 131 channel, did a two part video series on the President/CEO, James Hoskins. James has been confirmed to have claimed, on multiple occasions, to be a Navy Seal Corpsman (medic for us lay people). Other lofty claims, several awards, and associations are debunked in Don's video series. I have listed the video below and the series is definitely worth watching. I would also list Hoskin's Facebook page, but it does appear to have been removed...Coincidence I am sure.
However, the guy did not remove his business's Facebook page: Hoskins International Facebook Page

The right thing to do in this instance would be to admit what you did was wrong and that you were a complete doucher. I get it you wanted to be macho, that goes a long way in this world filled with pussies. But dude... You attempted to pass as a member of the most elite warrior class to ever to walk the earth... er... and swim. Uberfail bro, did you not think that someone was going to figure it out? Oh well, enough gibberish from me, I'll let Don take it from here.

Reload California Legal with No Tools!

I feel really sorry for those of you in California so I thought I would do a demo of this new product that requires no tools to reload your AR-15.

A message from the owner of ARMagLock
"ARMagLock is a new patent pending AR-15 fixed magazine solution for restricted states New York, California, Connecticut, Maryland and others. It allows AR-15 owners to comply with existing and proposed fixed magazine laws, potentially avoiding assault weapon registration within their respective states. See our legal disclaimer for additional legal status information at ARMagLock.com."

Last, I spoke with ARMagLock they expect this upgrade to receive official DOJ approval in several states in the imminent future.

VSO Throw-Back Week. Mud Guns

I recently had a birthday. You know birthdays kinda suck when you get older- the best ones are sub 16 years old; then your "friends" get a hold of you for your 21st. That day is the worst day of your life, until you get married.

Everyone asked me what I wanted? And I kind of sluffed it off, did the socially correct thing and didn't name an endless list of $2000 guns. (Tacdaddy, I want and FNX45T, black variant!) All kidding aside, what I really wanted was something that no one could give me. I wanted to go run and gun like the old days with my brother, MrTacticalBacon.

As many of you know he is currently deployed overseas, hunting bad guys. So needless to say he is somewhat predisposed with raising his kill count and won't be making the party. He did email me and say that he picked me up a nice gift that will arrive at the FFL in about a month. Hat tip to him, I am very grateful but I would much rather be out-running him on the obstacle course.

I couldn't have that so I did the next best thing: I have a ton of video that has been published from the early days of VSO. A lot of it is pretty terrible, I am not going to lie. However, I keep it around to grant me some solace while by best friend is gone, engaging in grand adventures of desolation and requital. So stay safe bro, kill Moogs, and without further babbling. The first throwback I would like to highlight is this last minute throw together from early 2011.  "Mud Guns"

ARES ARMOR Raided by the ATF

Yes, you read that right. The ATF conducted a raid of a non-firearms company, making up their own laws as they go. They even went as far as to defy a restraining order that Ares Armor had taken out on them.

In this video I put out a direct letter to the ATF. If you feel so inclined please write the ATF, respectfully and professionally and tell them that this is unacceptable. I have included my words in text form in the description box

Steel Cased Ammo, To Use or Not to Use?

I recently received a message from a viewer asking about the use of steel cased ammunition in his firearm and if it is alright:

"I had a question. I was wondering what your opinion is of on steel cased ammo for just recreational shooting. I've talked to a lot of people and they all have different opinions. Some say it's just fine. Others say I can shoot them as long as I clean my gun immediately after shooting. But others say not to use it period. What is your opinion? Thanks! "

My Response:

"Well before giving a straight opinion I will give you that facts and let you formulate your own.
Steel cased ammo is generally less expensive because:

i.)The cases are generally not reloadable as they are almost always berdan primed, Of course you could drill these out if you wanted...

ii.) Steel is less malleable than brass, making it more brittle and prone to failure when reloaded.

iii.) By far the most relevant reason why steel ammo is considered "cheaper" is because the case does not expand/contract as well during the firing cycle as brass. This leads to an increased incidence of malfunction because the seal on the chamber is often not as complete as its brass alternative. People also say that steel ammo is "dirtier" ; this is actually not true either. XM855 is some of the dirtiest ammo you can find for your AR-15. However, because of the aforementioned seal issue there is often leakage of the chamber gasses back into the action. Making it appear dirtier than most brass ammunition.

So long story short:   It will not hurt your gun, period

As for the cleaning of the gun immediately after use, most of the steel cased ammo available now is non corrosive and will not damage your weapon. You can confirm this by checking for odd colored residue (often Blue-green) on the crown of your barrel after about a week of inactivity. If the ammunition is indeed non-corrosive then the only reason for immediate cleaning would be to
mitigate berdan buildup between cleanings.

WE use, almost exclusively, Steel cased ammo."

To continue that point, the reason we do so is two fold. One, to keep costs down, obviously. Two, to increase the incidence of malfunction of our weapons. This is a valuable training tool. A weapon that malfunctions from time to time is better than one that doesn't in the realm of training. If your gun never has a problem then when Murphy's law kicks in you likely won't know how to handle it in an expedient manner.

I recommend cleaning every thousand rounds or so.

Now all my "Emergency mags" are loaded with high quality brass ammo and hopefully will stay that way.

As a final note:
You should always read your owners manual. From time to time your manufacturer will dictate what kind of ammunition they will not warranty your firearm for use with. What works for me may also not work for you: I am going to burn that barrel out far before I worry about long term erosion by corrosive ammo or clogging of internal components with berdan. I assemble my AR-15s and augment most of my firearms myself. I am accountable to myself in this regard, but remember that the role of gear tester is much different then that of long-term owner.

Vehicle Operations Training: Civilians, Cops, and Military for the Constitution

I am going to touch base on what is going on with our Asymmetric Solutions Video series. Right now, I have been bringing you a series on Vehicle Interdiction/ Ambush. Really (and the instructor even says this in one of the videos), these techniques are for the most part, not applicable to most civilian situations (mostly applicable to my military and LEO folks). That said, I can identify two reasons why this information is very important to the civilian community.

The first I want to touch on is the Emergency Situation. Something along the lines of "Shit hit the fan". Now don't jump on me for this line of thinking. In the chaos that results from a natural disaster, people panic. When panic sets in we revert to animals, no mater how "civilized" you think you are. Three days without food and our most refined communities will look like Mogadishu. Commandeering a vehicle...well, don't you think that could be a useful skill? Or at least defending against it?

That is a great caveat to the second reason why I think the citizenry as a whole should be privy to this information. This is maybe going to piss some people off, but hear me out before you freak on me.

We are currently witnessing the militarization of the police force. For whatever reason you think it is happening, or whether you are a proponent or opponent- the simple fact is that it is happening. Likewise, whether you like it or not, the rules are being bent more and more often these days on technicalities. If you know this information you are better equipped to react to the situation. It's like having the other team's playbook. I am not trying to upset my LEO and military people, many of my friends work in these fields.

That said (speaking directly to my LEOs), you guys need to know your bounds, an unconstitutional law or directive is invalid. Remember that you derive your authority from the consent of the governed, not the other way around. To those in the community feeling threatened by the way I am framing this information- just make sure that you find yourself on the correct side of the constitution. Do this and the people that you have sworn an oath to (for the purposes of protecting their inalienable rights) will pose you no threat by wielding such information. If you feel threatened by that then perhaps you should spend a little time contemplating your role and perspective with respect to those who pay your salary. I say that because, even though our education system doesn't teach it, there is a such thing as being wrong. In this case you are and should reevaluate your career path.

To wrap it up. Whether you are on the job- pulling Gang-Bangers out of Suburbans; deployed to some God-awful hell hole- ripping Moogs out of broke-ass cars; or just a citizen going about your unmolested business, this information doesn't take that long to absorb and is fairly intuitive. It is for everyone and that is why I have decided to share it on my channel. Enjoy the show and follow this link view the vehicle portion of my series from Asymmetric Solutions from start.

ADCOR DEFENSE: Forward with Poor Service

At SHOT Show media day I stopped at the ADCOR booth and took their "Range Day Challenge". It wasn't too bad of a setup. They strapped you into a decently constructed plate carrier (as far as I could tell) and had you shoot the targets while using their charging handle system. They then had you plink to 500 Yrds with a Horus Raptor on one of their setups; I guess to show accuracy...?  Two things.

1.) Where were the plates in the vest? Those are a game changer for any weapon upgrade. So either they forgot the plates, or didn't bother lining them up or the charging handle is out of reach for some. Draw you own conclusions. Their system does maintain standard controls and, as I demonstrated, shows some improvement- you do not have to throw your face out of the way when you Big-Boy Stroke.

2.) 500 yards? With a 16X optic from Horus Vision? I can hit targets at 500 yrds off of carry handle. While the optic from Horus was very beautiful I would have liked to see them push out farther with it if they wanted to demonstrate the weapon's accuracy.

So in summation, yes they had some decent innovations and I told them that at the time of filming. You all know me though, I pull no punches. Although their enhancements may be positive influences on the AR-15 platform I have not personally tested them. I will give ADCOR credit, they have a former combat veteran on staff that stands by the product (pictured in the video). I am assuming he is on the payroll but I will yield to his military credentials and allow them to speak for themselves- If he says its good kit then its good enough for me until I find otherwise.

That said, I do not think we are ever going to know the answer to that question. There are several tenants that a company has to fulfill before I am willing to work with them. While ADCOR was on the mark with their product they failed miserably in the customer service side of affairs. While I do not intend to disclose any identities or air any of the recorded phone calls. I will say that in my post SHOT Show follow up that not all of the people I communicated with maintained professionalism. I am going to ask you, the reader/viewer, a very simple question. The same question I always ask when we talk about customer service:  If ADCOR is going to conduct themselves in such a manner to me- the one wielding power over a portion of the interweb. How are they going to treat you, the individual consumer?

In closing, the Horus representative that I spoke with was top notch.

Thanks for checking in everyone

The Best Firearms Training

It's been a while since I gave an update on our video series on Asymmetric Solutions USA, located near Farmington Missouri. So I thought I would touch base. This week I would like to focus on two videos in particular. The reason is this: When VSO went there we received a broad spectrum of training that very few places can replicate; both with the depth of knowledge in their training cadre and the capabilities of their facility. The following two videos contain information that everyone should have access to and be able to easily incorporate into their training regimen, carry doctrine, and home defense planning.

"How to Handle a Home-Invasion with Kids"
While VSO was onsite we learned how to operate the shoot house as a team and kill bad-guys very efficiently. Two of the chief rules were never go into a room by yourself, and always maintain communication with your buddies. So in an after action interview with the manager of the instructor cadre who will remain unnamed I posed this question:
What if you are by yourself? Single? Perhaps a parent with children? What if evil knocks on your door then?
In a jovial manner, he suggested getting married and then we got down to brass tacks. I could ramble on but lets let the professional take it from here:

The second video I would like to talk about is this piece:
"Retaining Your Firearm in a Crowd or CQB Situation"
This fine nugget of gold came out in an impromptu manner when head instructor Grady Powell was prepping us for entrance into the kill house. Grady is an excellent instructor that is very free flowing in his teaching style, allowing him to move through progressions rapidly if everyone is on the same page, and spend more time on areas that need work. I very much enjoyed spending the day under his custody. In the following video we are simulating a crowded area with a target that needs taken down. The progressions eventually turn to frantic, then to semi-hostile individuals obstructing your firing solution. When you watch this drill and listen to his advice on handling your firearm imagine two scenarios.

1.) You are in a crowded area, a mall, movie theater, party, ect. and a crazy person opens fire on the crowd. You are a CCW holder who decides to act. It's absolute chaos with people running every direction, smashing into each other, trying to get out of harms way.
2.) Same situation, only this time the crowd misidentifies you as the shooter and decides to act against you.
How do you respond? Well once again let's pick up with the experts:
I hope everyone who watched these videos gained something. IF you didn't and you were all trained up, cuddos. (liar)

On one final note:
I have had several requests for hand to hand combat instruction taught by Grady Powell. I'll make you a deal. On my next visit to AS, come on down. You fight Mr. Powell and I will gladly film. While we were there, one of my crew asked me if there was "some kind of size restriction on being in the Special Forces?". Every person we met while we were there would be a formidable adversary in any degree of combat. Grady was no exception and " I ain't touchin' that guy" because his high-drag, low-speed is still fatal to us mere mortals.

As always,  if you are looking for your certified badass card, check into our friends at Asymmetric Solutions and tell them Spectre sent Ya!

Desert TECH MDR Debut: SHOT Show 2014

The Desert Tech (Formerly Desert Tactical Arms) Micro Dynamic Rifle or MDR. In as few words as possible:

My Dream Rifle. OR  May Decimate Rivals

Having handled multiple bullpup designs in my career, I am really excited about the potential this design holds. The full synopsis on the system can be had straight from the horse's mouth in the below interview with Desert Tech themselves at SHOT Show 2014 . However, the major take away is this: The MDR is going to be the most adaptable, mission specific bullpup design to date. The projected release date is sometime in 2015. I am looking forward to getting my hands on one for these for some rigorous stress testing. In my opinion, the innovative design of the operating system and rugged construction are a formula for reliability and sustainability previously achieved only as recently as the release of the Tavor series.
In closing I think that Desert Tech as upped the ante a bit, making the standard caliber .308 Winchester and then scaling the conversions down to 5.56NATO. It will be interesting to see how IWI and other bullpup manufacturers answer. At the same time, the larger caliber presents its own challenges. We are truly living in interesting times.
Keep an eye out for updates, because if you want to know something's breaking point the VSO track record speaks for itself. #GLOCK
